“I am the one who eats breakfast
gazing at morning glories.”
(Travel) – Morning Glory is one of the most charming restaurants in Oregon. The food is delicious, the ambiance cozy, and the way you are treated couldn’t be better. It is in Ashland, and it is a stop one must make while traveling in that area.
I found it by chance. In the line to buy tickets for one of the plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival the night before, a friendly woman said: “You must go to Morning Glory for breakfast, you must!” and so I did.
They open at 8am on Sunday mornings. At 8:05 am, I was parking in the back of the restaurant, decorated a-la-French, and there was already a long line of anxious guests ready to eat. Many of them before me, and I was as anxious and hungry as them.
I got a little table in the corner, not my preference, by the way. I forgot all about it when the very nice waiter approached me and took care of my breakfast desires: Coffee! Spinach, mushroom and goat cheese omelet, hash browns on the side. Just imagine. It is not how the plate looks but how the food tastes. The food sizzles and slides in your mouth and when you look around to take a break, the cozy, comforting decorations add to your pleasures, and you cannot do anything else but take a quick deep breath and eat more.
The Chef and owner, a woman, was cooking on that morning –I understand she does it often and it is her “sazón” that wins the moment. On my way out, I had to pry into the kitchen, and I saw her in the midst of her art. I smiled. One has to cook with heart. She does it and it is glorious!
Not only I had a great, healthy breakfast, but I was able to sit outside, write and check emails on my laptop, surrounded by a beautiful garden, on a glorious Sunday morning. ;-)!
Find Morning Glory at 1149 Siskiyou Blvd, Ashland, OR 97520. It has been rated on Trip Advisor as “Excellent” 300+ times.
Why I am recommending it: Just this one restaurant is worth the trip from California to Ashland, Oregon, for a weekend or for a few days, alone or with others. This is the perfect road trip and one that can also be done by train. Oregon is full of beauty.
