Asking for help or receiving food donations shouldn’t be a source of shame, but rather a lesson in humility. Volunteering without judging also is a true lesson in community.
Families, seniors and individuals benefit from food banks and programs, and the need for food doesn’t seem to recede. The need is right here, in our cities and towns.
Neighborhood programs such as the Haight-Ashbury Food Program do a lot with very little. Volunteer or donate if you want and can.
Monetary donations can be mailed by check or money order to: Haight Ashbury Food Program, PO BOX 170202, San Francisco CA 94117.
To volunteer, just show up in Saturdays at 9am or after, and help for at least a couple of hours. The program runs through 2pm, located at 1525 Waller Street. San Francisco.
