This woman was waiting for someone for a while. She wasn’t selling, the typical activity of people from Chamula, Chiapas. She was waiting and she was thinking. (LP)These two women were in front of me for a few blocks. Two friends. They were talking, laughing, in their togetherness, away from the world around and this woman with an iphone, the one who took their picture without asking. (LP)A few days before Mexican Independence Day, this young man sells Macadamias in San Cristobal de las Casas. Nonchalantly he looks at people who pass by and don’t buy. (LP)At the Mercado de Artesanias in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, this woman was talking with another from the back of one of the puestos (stands) in which artesanias locales are sold. I love the colors, and her posture. (LP)This is my favorite. A moment of selling and buying. In that precise moment she was negotiating prices with the buyer. The kid in the back seems used to the whole interaction. (LP)
Usually, I prefer to ask consent when taking pictures of people. But one afternoon in San Cristobal de las Casas when I wasn’t even planning to take pictures, they just came in front of me. Asking permission would have made a simple, usual moment go away. And so, these are Fotos sin Permiso, pero con mucho respeto. ( Lupita Peimbert.)
