Renoir Died On a Day Like Today

French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir was one of the leaders of impressionism. He died on December 3, 1919 in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France. Among his works there is a dancing series called “Dance in Bougival,” featuring three couples in movement. Bougival was a suburb of Paris.

A film about Renoir’s last years in Cagnes-sur-Mer and his last model/muse was directed by his son Jean Renoir and released in 2012. The Renoir film shows a compelling view of the painter’s personality at old age and it also shows beautiful settings and surroundings.
