Mujeres de Arena – The Killing of Women in Juarez

They were all young, beautiful, and poor. They were abducted, assaulted, raped, tortured, and killed; their bodies dumped, mutilated, hidden. Commonly referred to as “The Women of Juarez”, this massive case of violence against hundreds of young women has attracted international attention and support from NGOs such as International Amnesty but no answers to the victim’s mothers. These mothers have courageously fought and still are fighting for justice. With “Mujeres de Arena,” Círculo Cultural -a Spanish-language theater troupe reminds us that the problem still exists. I saw it in Redwood City last Friday, and it will be presented again April 21, 2012. Well done. I recommend it.
